KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Prof. Dr Ir. Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar has been reappointed as the vice-chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) for another two-year term beginning yesterday, said a statement from the Education Ministry.

Sahol Hamid, who turns 60 on Jan 9, was first appointed UiTM vice-chancellor in January 2010. He was reappointed for a two-year term in January 2011.

The ministry said it was hoped that the reappointment of Sahol Hamid would help UiTM continue to produce high quality bumiputera graduates as well as contribute to community and national development.

He has served as the dean of the engineering faculty at UiTM, Penang UiTM campus director and deputy vice-chancellor (academic and internationalisation) at the university.

In 2008, Sahol Hamid was appointed director at the project management office of the then Higher Education Ministry.

Sahol Hamid is also the first Malaysian and Asian to have obtained a honorary doctorate in engineering from the University of Stuttgart in Germany. -- BERNAMA
